Food Service Worker
Brentwood School District
Long Island Division
Ms. Tucker Castillo became a member in 2018. She says, “I love Local 237 – they helped me become a union member from a sub food service worker. The union is always there for me.
On the job, she enjoys working with the kids, making breakfasts for all the students and believes that when you love the kids, they love you.
She and Ramon have been married for 31 years. They have two daughters and one son as well as a granddaughter and a grandson. Ms. Tucker Castillo likes to go on vacation with her family.
Local 237 Long island Director Ben Carenza notes why this very new member (8/4/18) deserves the award: “We entered a long contract battle at the Brentwood School District. After 14 months of protesting in the streets and at Board Meetings, we finally got a 3-year deal with retro pay and no givebacks. At the time, Ana was a non-union sub worker, yet she came to every rally and event and was always there for the union. Local 237 advocated for Ana and 12 other subs. We are very happy that she and the other subs are now 237 members! This means an increase in hourly pay and she is now entitled to Welfare Fund benefits for her and her family.”
